Off-Grid Scout ("we", "us", "our") operates the Off-Grid Scout Chrome Extension and API service. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data transparently.

2. Data We Collect

We collect the following data:

  • Email address — when you join our waitlist or create an account
  • Property listing URLs — when you use the extension to scan a property
  • Scan results — the analysis data generated for each property scan
  • Usage data — number of scans, features used (anonymised)

3. How We Use Your Data

  • To provide the property analysis service
  • To send you scan results and dossier reports
  • To manage your account and subscription
  • To improve our service and fix bugs
  • To send you product updates (you can opt out anytime)

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to provide our analysis:

  • UK Environment Agency (flood data)
  • OpenStreetMap / Overpass API (infrastructure data)
  • NASA POWER (solar/wind data)
  • British Geological Survey (soil/aquifer data)
  • PlanIt API (planning application data)
  • OpenTopoData (elevation data)
  • Stripe (payment processing)

We only send coordinates and location data to these services. We do not share your personal information.

5. Chrome Extension Permissions

The Off-Grid Scout Chrome Extension requests the following permissions:

  • activeTab — to read the current property listing page URL and content
  • storage — to save your preferences and API key locally

We do NOT access your browsing history, other tabs, or any data beyond the active property listing page.

6. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely on encrypted servers. We use HTTPS for all API communications. We retain your scan data for 12 months, after which it is automatically deleted.

7. Your Rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Delete your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent at any time

8. Cookies

We use essential cookies only for authentication and session management. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or through the extension.
